ReEntry Simulation

This is free re-entry training activity which we have helped facilitate with the United States Attorney’s Office for various government agencies, resource providers, law students, correctional institutions, and thousands of incarcerated individuals.

The Re-Entry Simulation runs between 1-2 hours and mimics the first month after release. Participants must perform all the tasks which a returning citizen must do (get ID, report to Probation Officer, Employment, housing, etc). Success at each stage results in a participant either returning to jail, being homeless, or residing in a home. The simulation parallels real life where 68% end up back in jail.

Once you experience it, you can easily host the simulation for other groups and events.

The Simulation kits and materials are free for anyone to use

Our goal to help spread the use of this tool across the United States, to better educate stakeholders and people in custody to help improve the chances of success for those returning home.

Incorporated into the simulation are unexpected hurdles and other random life events. Participants not only learn what must be done when coming home, but also learn the difficulty and frustration that accompanies this process.

This is a great tool for incarcerated individuals, government agency staff, and service providers to learn the process of coming home and experience the activities via a simulation. The simulation is flexible and has been modified for other populations such as Foster Kids “aging out” of the foster care system.

We appreciate your interest in this simulation and look forward to speaking with you. To schedule a reentry simulation, please contact Rich MacAllaster at rmacallaster@gmail.com.
